It’s time for the new release from The Rabbit Hole Designs, and this one is a lot of fun! Today, we’re showing off the new Buggy for Caffeine stamp set. Unlike the other stamps in the series, you get three critters and a bunch of sentiments all in one bigger set! As soon as I saw it, I knew these guys would look fabulous in shimmery colors.
I pulled out my Twinking H2Os and watercolored the praying mantis. By stamping him onto watercolor paper, I could add several layers of color without the paper pilling up. He is colored mostly with shades of green, but I added a little red and purple to his nose, one elbow, and the tip of his wings for a little pop.
After he dried, I outlined his body and the rest of the panel with clear water. Then, I painted shades of blue from the bottom up, allowing the paint to naturally flow around his body. As the panel dried, I splattered on clear water and lifted some of the paint, then I splattered on concentrated colors, to create texture in the background. I also added a blue shadow under him.
Sometimes watercolor panels warp as they dry. Here is a tip for removing some of those wrinkles. Spritz the back of the panel with clear water (I use a spray bottle with a light mist). Lay the panel onto a clean, flat cloth, or paper towel, with the wet side down. Then cover the panel with a large acrylic block. The cloth will absorb the extra water, and the block will hold it down, so the panel will dry flat and evenly.
To finish this card, I die cut a circle from a white square and trimmed the watercolor panel to fit behind it. I layered them onto a grey card base and added an embossed sentiment, as well as a few gems. This design was inspired by a card my friend, Koren Wiskman, recently made. I really like the circle on a square base. Lol, and if you know Koren, you know she loves a good grey card base.

Amazing job coloring him. I LOVE this guy. I am going to order some praying mantids from Armstrong for my little 5 year old grandson who LOVES BUGS MORE THAN ANYTHING. Thanks for showing how I can color this. I can make a card to go with his eggs 🙂
Amanda, you don’t know how much I love this card or the stamp ❤❤❤
He’s gorgeous!! Super coloring and love how you layered white onto a gray base with the circle framing! Really brought out how gorgeous your coloring really is and highlighted the praying mantis!! @jordanbev5 on IG; Beverly Jordan
I went straight over and ordered this stamp set. Love your card
My daughter is so afraid of praying mantis so I can’t wait to make her a card with this set.
Love your watercoloring and the glaze on his eyes!
OK Amanda Just STOP! I just received the rest of my Caffeinated animals to round out my set and here you are again! ADORABLE job! And I see the head bunny made it to the photo ops. Don’t do Instagram, but enjoyed it above on this page!!
This is my favorite coloring job of the cards shown today; really awesome!
This is MY morning statement! Cute card!🙂🐜🦗
I like the coloring overall. Will try the tip for curled paper since I’m doing lots of watercoloring lately and have been using lighter paper.
