Cute Overload Light Up Birthday Card

This chubby little hedgehog stole my heart the moment I saw it, and I knew I had to create a light-up birthday card that would do it justice! The magic happens with the One Light from Pear Blossom Press – it’s the perfect size to tuck behind that little birthday candle and make it glow when you press the cake. I made sure to build in a way to easily replace the battery later, because this adorable card deserves to light up birthday celebrations for years to come. Using the hedgehog mini album from Scrap Diva Designs paired with Karen Burneston’s big birthday charms, this project came together surprisingly quickly!

The secret to keeping this interactive card functional long-term is the PB PRESS Stamp and Die Bundle from Pear Blossom Press. That rectangular die creates the perfect escape hatch on the back of the card – it cuts on three sides and scores on the fourth, making a flap that’s exactly the right size for the entire One Light to fit. When it’s time to swap out the battery, you simply open the flap and the whole light comes with it.

I went with white cake and white frosting on this birthday cake because that’s my favorite (chocolate lovers, don’t come for me!). The little fork in that hand just makes the whole scene even more charming – I couldn’t resist using it. Whether you’re making this for a birthday, just because, or to practice your interactive card skills, I hope this project inspires you to create something that lights up someone’s day!
