How to Create a Popsicle Shaped Card

Hello, hello again! Today, I’ve got a really cool card to share; it’s shaped like a popsicle! With a little creative die cutting, it was easy to make. Let me show you how…

To start, cut three pink cardstock panels to 2 7/8″ x 4,” round the bottom corners with a corner rounding punch. Next, stack all three together and place a 3″ circle die at the top. Cover only the upper half of the die with your top plate, and run it through your die cutting machine. (You probably won’t be able to cut through all three layers at once, but the die will impress into the bottom layer, so you can remove the other pieces and line it back up.) To create the ridges in your popsicle, use a 2 1/4″ straight slider die to cut them from one of the panels. Before assembly, emboss your sentiment across the top panel, and score a line 3/4″ from the top of one of the solid panels (this will become the back layer).

To assemble the popsicle, adhere the two solid layers together, applying glue only above the score line. This forms your card base, and it should hinge open below the score line. Next, glue a popsicle stick to the back of the top layer (it’s easier to make sure it’s centered between the two ridge cutouts). Make sure the stick doesn’t extend beyond your envelope length. I chose a #7 coin envelope (mini-slimline size), so my stick extends about 2 1/8″ from the bottom panel. Using regular foam tape (same thickness as the stick), apply it to the back of the panel, and adhere it to the card base. Voila, you have a popsicle! Now it’s time to decorate…

The sweet buns in the new Tastes Like Summer stamp set are adorable, so I chose one for the front of my card. I stamped him in Warm Glow ink, and colored him with Copic markers for a no-line look. White gel pen highlights make everything look shiny. (I added them to the sides of my popsicle too.) After cutting him with my Scan N Cut (there is a coordinating die available as well), I attached him to the front of the card with double thick foam tape. A few clear raindrop gems make it look like the popsicle is dripping.

So what do you think? Isn’t it neat? I love shaped cards. I think it would also be fun to make an ice cream cone shaped card too. (Hum, now the wheels are turning…)

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Don’t forget, I’ll be back tomorrow with a pair of lovely new light-up cards, perfect for Mother’s Day. I can’t wait to show you them! See you tomorrow…
