Shop Updates

Hello crafty friends! Micah told me the original post I wrote was too long and I should sum it up right here at the top, so let me start with a huge thank you and an apology for selling out of EZ-Lights so fast. We should be re-stocked by the end of November/early December (but hopefully sooner). You can order now, and they will ship as soon as we receive them. We are also excited to introduce you to a new-to-us product called Maker Tape! It’s a fantastic substitute for copper tape if you create your own paper circuits. EZ-Light News

Thank you all so much for the overwhelming love for our new EZ-Lights! Micah and I are humbled. We hoped that they’d be well received, but we were unprepared for just how well. Our collaboration hop with Karen Burniston generated so much interest that we sold out in two days! A week before the hop went live, we re-ordered circuit boards and parts because we were about half way through our stock on hand. We had no idea that the hop would be as successful as it was, or we’d have re-ordered sooner. 

So how soon will we have more EZ-Lights in stock? Realistically, it will be the end of November/early December. We’ve asked the board house to expedite our order, if at all possible. Right now, they are waiting on the LEDs to be delivered, then they will be soldered on by hand. Unfortunately, it’s a time consuming process. As soon as they are done, they will be shipped to us to package. I will post an update again when I have a more exact ETA. Do you receive our newsletter? I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on the discount that is being offered during the hop, so I’ll issue a new one for 15% off EZ-Lights when they are back in stock. We’ve also re-opened backorders for EZ-Lights at this time so you can order them now, but please remember they won’t be in stock for a few more weeks. If you order anything else at the same time, your whole order will ship together when backordered items are in stock. Power Packs & Maker Tape

For those of you who like to run your own circuits with Power Packs and Chibitronics, we’ve got exciting news for you too! Over the past few weeks, we’ve been testing Maker Tape from Brown Dog Gadgets. It’s a conductive nylon cloth tape that you can use in place of traditional copper tape. It’s fantastic! The resistance is much lower than copper tape (meaning power can flow to your lights easier), and the connections are stronger, longer lasting, and less likely to become flakey over time. Plus, since it’s fabric tape, you can bend and fold it without worrying about it cracking. This is a HUGE improvement to copper tape. It comes in 1/8″ and 1/4″ wide rolls. We actually prefer the 1/8″ since it is easier to curve and can be run in tighter spots.

We’ve ordered Maker Tape for our shop and if you’ve ordered any Power Packs over the past few days, you’ll see a sample tucked in for you to try. We are also switching out the copper tape for Maker Tape in our Power Pack Kits! Instead of 5 feet of copper tape, you’ll get a 5 meter roll of 1/8″ Maker Tape. (The larger roll costs more than the copper tape spools, so you’ll see a slight increase to the price of our kits, but we believe the added value more than makes up for it!) We’ll still offer copper tape in the shop for those who prefer it, but be on the look out for Maker Tape in our shop and kits starting next week!
