Texture – it’s one of the best ways to make your handmade cards stand apart from boring, flat, pre-printed cards available at the store. Today, I’m sharing a sweet little mini-slimline that incorporates four different ways of adding texture. Let’s take a look…
Layers
You know how I love chunky cards. Adding lots of die cut pieces, and cardstock layers is my favorite way to create texture on cards. Bonus points for popping them up with foam tape too!
Embossing
Heat embossing is a quick and easy way to give your stamped images a shiny, raised texture. On today’s card, I heat embossed all of the sentiments to help them pop.
Faux Stitching
Faux stitching is a great way to add texture and interest without overpowering your focal point. Many dies cut stitched outlines, and there are texture background dies as well. Use them to quickly create tone-on-tone details.
Splatter
While splattered ink is technically flat when it dries, it creates the illusion of texture, and can really add a lot to your cards. I like to guide and control the areas where I splatter ink. Often, I flick it onto my backgrounds in a diagonal, to help create a line for the eye to follow. Then, I layer die cut elements on top. (You can always cheat and use a metal stylus to strategically add a few more dots to your background if you need to.)
Here’s a look at my card. Can you see all of the texture? I even added round and heart gems for more dimension…
