#besties Card

Hey crafty friends, I’ve got a fun new card today, and a new term you can drop on your teenagers to let them know you’re still cool (or it can backfire and everyone will have a good laugh). 

First the card… I die cut several girls and accessories in the Making Faces set from i-crafter out of white cardstock. You could cut them from colored paper and piece them together, but I love to color them myself. It allows me to add highlights and shadows. Plus, I’m coloring along with the new #thedailymarker30day coloring challenge, so I’m coloring everything I can right now. 😉 

To color the pieces, I separated them and stuck them to a strip of masking tape, then used Copic markers. I played with skin tones and chose some bright colors for the hair, just for fun. Once I was happy with the coloring, I glued them to a strip of vellum and added Aqua Shimmer to their hair and Diamond Glaze over their glasses. 

Assembling this card was quick and easy. I cut a piece of pattern paper down, layered an aqua die cut Doily on top, then wrapped the vellum strip around it and glued it to a yellow card base. I die cut the sentiment with the new Carly Alphabet and glued it in place. I love this alphabet set because it has both upper and lower case letters, along with numbers and punctuation. It’s got everything you need all in one set! To finish the card, I added a few flat-backed gems.

Now the new term… When I showed the card to my daughters, they said these looked like soft girls. Apparently, that is a new makeup trend where girls use soft color palettes for smokey eyes and heavy blush (usually lots of pink). Occasionally, they draw little hearts or embellishments on their cheeks too. It’s not just a fashion trend, but an attitude as well. Pictures were googled, a debate erupted and other terms like VSCO girls (pronounced visco) and e-girls were tossed around. And finally, a Powerpuff Girls analogy was used to eliminate any confusion. Bubbles is a soft girl. (Blossom is a VSCO girl, and Buttercup is an e-girl). I hope this information will be helpful when dealing with the teenagers in your life 😉
