1980’s Hello – CAS Card

If you’ve looked around lately, you’ve probably noticed the 1980s are calling. And today, I’m answering! Lol, this sweet hello card (we’re not going to call it retro, because I refuse to believe the ’80s fall into that category yet) is clean and simple, but also super sparkly. I really love this one! Check it out…

It’s probably hard to tell from the video, but even the rainbow has a little glitter. So how did I make it? With the help of i-crafter’s new Shadow Hello Friend die set! It does all the work for you, and totally sets up the ’80s vibe. I’ll show you how…

First, a quick word about clean and simple (CAS) cards. It’s important to use good cardstock. Since there are so few “ingredients,” the quality of each is especially noticeable. So for this card, pull out the good stuff.

To start, I die cut the shadow word HELLO four times from white cardstock, once from black, and again from holographic paper (six layers total). While I was at it, I cut the rainbow from the same die set, three times from white cardstock.

Using two shades of Copic markers for each stripe, I colored one full rainbow. There is no need to color the other two, because they will be stacked up for height, and not seen. (I love to color my die cut pieces, but you can cut one rainbow from colored cardstock if you prefer.) Next, I stacked and glued all three rainbows together, to form a thick piece.

In order to tuck the rainbow under the word HELLO, without creating a bulge, I stacked and glued three white layers together, then used the rainbow die to notch out the top of the word. That way, I could nestle the rainbow into the notches, and stack the holographic shadow flat on top. I glued the black word into the open area of holographic shadow, then glued the last white layer on top, slightly offset. The little bit of black showing adds contrast, and makes the word pop, but doesn’t overpower the pastel color scheme.

To pull the card together, I glued the stacked die cuts onto a top-folding A2 card base, and scattered a few rainbow pearls around. For an extra sparkly touch, I brushed over the rainbow with a shimmer pen. Here are some more shots of the finished card.

Isn’t it fun? The Shadow Hello Friend die set also includes the word FRIEND, and a star. There is a coordinating Shadow Happy Birthday set out this month too! I plan to use them both to make notecard sets and give them as Christmas gifts. With cards this pretty, and quick to make, I can’t resist whipping out more!

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you’ll join me tomorrow; I’ve got the cutest mini-slimline to share, that features the birthday set I just mentioned, and the new Puppy Face Wiper! I can’t wait to show you! Until then, if you’re ready for more inspiration, head on over to i-crafter and check out the whole new release! You’re sure to find something for you, and stocking stuffers for all of your crafty friends too! See you tomorrow…
