Hello again my crafty friend! I’m back sharing another fun coffee themed card, featuring the new Caffeinated Koala from The Rabbit Hole Designs. Since I missed my uncle’s birthday, I decided to make him a belated birthday card. Take a look!
Instead of coloring with Copics, I decided to paint the scene with watercolors. I love the look you can achieve with them in large areas, like the wall and floors in this scene. So I stamped my Caffeinated Koala onto a watercolor paper panel, then masked him, and stamped the Coffee Shop Background behind him. (I’m pretending it’s his kitchen for this card. Close enough, right?) Since the watercolor paper is textured, I had to stamp each image several times. My Mini Misti made the job easy.
To paint the scene, I started with the background. Working in sections that didn’t touch, I painted each area with clear water first, then dropped in color, and spread it out. I let the water do most of the work for me, adding second coats for shading (after the first coat dried). I really like my Prima watercolor palettes for translucent color like this. My go-to palette is the tropical set; ninety percent of the paint used came from there. I pulled the grey and red in from the classic palette. Notice that all of the background images only have single colors, but the Koala’s robe and slippers have a second color in the shadows? It adds interest to the focal point.
To pull the card together, I trimmed the panel and mounted it to a blue mat, then popped it up with foam onto a cream card base. After heat embossing the belated birthday sentiment onto Perfect Sentiment Cardstock, I trimmed it and mounted it with more foam tape. Since this card is for my uncle, I didn’t add sparkle. Lol, he appreciates it when I skip the glitter. Otherwise, that blue countertop would have gotten a touch. What do you think?
