Hello! Christina here, and I’m so excited to share another project with you this month as a guest designer on the Pear Blossom Press blog! My project again features the EZ-Light unit that I used to light up three fireflies (or lightning bugs, depending on where you’re from😄) when you press the button, which I placed under a rock in this adorable scene that I created with some recent Waffle Flower Crafts goodies. I love how this card turned out, and I can’t wait to share all the details! Keep reading to find a supply list and all the steps I took to create this EZ Light project. Let’s get started!

My first step was to create the background of my pond scene on a white A2 cardstock panel. I used the Pond Stencil and Distress Inks to ink up a watery scene for the frog to sit in. After stenciling the water, I ink-blended a grassy marsh sprouting up around the pond. To give the background some texture and more interest, I splattered the entire panel with plain water. Then, using distress inks, I added green ink splatter to the marshy area and some blue splatter to the pond. The final step for the background was to sketch in cattails, or the suggestion of cattails, with Copic markers. Nothing fancy. Lightly sketching them in helps create some perspective in the scene.
With the background completed, I got to work on die cutting and inking the rest of the elements for my scene. Except for the fireflies, I die cut everything from white cardstock and used the ink colors listed above to add color. I really wanted the fireflies to glow, so I die cut the bodies from vellum and colored them with a yellow Copic marker and then used pearlescent white paper for the wings. To finish up the die cuts, I added texture details with Copic markers to the frog and the rocks.
The next step was to assemble the card, including the light-up interactive feature. I temporarily laid out my die cuts on the background panel so I knew where to attach the EZ-Light unit on the reverse side. I also needed to find the right placement for the sentiment. I lightly marked the spots for the lights and the button of the EZ-Light unit with a pencil. Then, before gluing or taping anything to the background, and ensuring that all ink was completely dry, I heat embossed the sentiment in white. I also heat embossed the interactive instruction “push” on the largest rock. Next I used regular scotch tape to attach the EZ-Light unit to the reverse side of the panel, using the pencil marks as a guide. Then I added foam tape across the rest of the panel. Easy! I flipped the panel over and attached it to an A2 white cardstock panel and got to work building my pond scene on the completed, interactive background. I used a combination of liquid adhesive and foam squares to attach my die cuts and finished the scene with clear enamel dots and a little faux white splatter using a white gel pen.
And that completes the steps to creating this adorable interactive pond scene featuring the EZ-Light unit. Thank you so much for reading all about it, and I hope I’ve inspired you to create your own light-up card!
