Rainbow Stenciled Birthday Cards

It’s day 2 of the new release from The Rabbit Hole Designs, and while the new Aim for the Stars, and Ribbon Stars stencils will coordinate perfectly with the space themed stamps, I wanted to show you another fun option. I ink blended beautiful rainbows through them to make cheerful birthday cards.

For both cards, I started by tacking my stencils to white panels with Pixie Spray. Then I used smaller blending brushes to blend a rainbow of permanent inks through. They layered on top of each other nicely to create beautiful transitions from one color to the next. After I removed the stencils and let the ink dry for a bit, I traced over the rainbow with a shimmer pen. The permanent inks did not bleed or transfer.

To finish each panel, I trimmed them down and added more ink blending around the edges. Some splattered ink helped fill in the negative space and add texture. I used purple ink on the Aim for the Stars panel, because I planned to use it on a purple card base, and blue for the Ribbon Stars panel.

Finishing the cards was quick and easy. I simply embossed Happy Birthday and Celebrate onto strips of vellum with Versamark and Raspberry scented embossing powder; they smell divine! I folded the vellum around the panels and adhered them to the backs, so no adhesive would show. If you want more glue under a vellum panel, you can always add small amounts to the solid cardstock and dab most of it off with your finger before sticking the vellum down; it almost never shows through. The ink blended panels are popped up with foam tape, and some clear gems add a little more sparkle.

I love that you can use these new stencils over galaxy backgrounds, night skies, or to create magical themed cards like these. What would you use them for? Ready for more inspiration? Hop along with us to see what the rest of the team has made!
