Egg-stra Special Easter Card

Welcome to day 3 of the release celebration for The Rabbit Hole Designs! The party is still going, and there are still prizes to be won, so make sure you hop along with us! Today, I’m sharing an egg-stra special Easter card, featuring stamps from the new Hip Hop Squad stamp set. I just love the soft color palette with no-line coloring.

As you may know, I’ve been making a ton of slimline cards lately (and this stamp set is sized perfectly to accommodate them), but I wanted to go back to a traditional A2 for today’s card. So I started by stamping the bunny in the center with Warm Glow ink. I masked him off and stamped the other two eggs behind him. Using Copic markers, I colored them no-line style. The background was very easy to draw in; it’s just grass and the sky. I created the horizon with a pale blue marker, and flicked up, fading to white. You can use the 0 blender to help transition to white if you need to (just flick down into the blue to soften the lines). For the grass, I used several shades of green to draw flicks all over, creating shadows with darker markers near the eggs and bunny. To deepen up the shadows and add fine details, I used colored pencils.

To pull the card together, I cut the panel down with a scalloped rectangle die. My die is long (designed for a slimline card) so I partially cut the panel, shifted my die, then cut the other side. This gave me a panel roughly 3¼” x 4¾.” I stamped HAPPY in the upper left corner in the same Warm Glow ink, then stacked three layers of the die cut word EASTER below it. I cut them from kraft paper to match. For the rest of the sentiment, I stamped it in Versamark ink, and embossed it with white powder on a kraft strip. I attached the strip to the bottom of the scalloped panel with a thin layer of foam tape. Using double thick foam tape, I popped the entire thing onto a white card base with a blue pattern paper panel trimmed to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8.” To add a little sparkle, I glued several iridescent gems to the panel.

I just love the way this card turned out! The pattern paper behind my simple grassy scene adds enough interest, that I didn’t need to try to draw in any other elements. (It’s a great trick for those of us who don’t draw.) And the extra thick foam really adds nice dimension to the card, making it feel egg-stra special.

In today’s card, I featured the new Hip Hop Squad stamp set and Spring Floral #1 paper pack, but be sure to check out the entire release. (You can see my card from day 1 here.) There are lots of cute new bunnies that coordinate. Since you can mix and match the entire release, The Rabbit Hole Designs is offering special bundles with a bunch of freebies this month; click on the pictures below to take a look!!!

  1. You might think it’s funny that I am focusing on the grass, but you did an excellent job making the grass. I have tried and tried to make grass that is the correct shape, the correct spacing, etc., but it never works out. So I noticed that you did a great job. It makes such a difference to have grass that LOOKS like grass 🙂
