Hoo’s Ready to Par-Tea

Hello my crafty friend! It’s day 3 of The Rabbit Hole Designs‘ release and inspiration hop, and today I get to share this fun birthday card featuring the new Caffeinated Owl! Isn’t he a hoot?

I decided to build him a little nest in the knothole of a tree. To create the hole, I used a set of nesting dies to cut concentric shapes from two pieces of woodgrain cardstock. You can use virtually any nesting dies for this. I blended a little Black Soot Distress Oxide ink around the edges of the smaller opening, then adhered each layer to a black card front with foam tape. The extra dimension between the layers gives the hole lots of dimension. My Caffeinated Owl was stamped, embossed, colored, and fussy cut. Then, I created a tiny teabag label and attached it to the mug with embroidery floss. I tucked the owl into the hole and added a few floral die cut pieces to fluff up his nest.

To finish the card, I embossed a sentiment from Perfectly Blended on black cardstock, then cut it out with a smaller die from the same nesting set I used for the knothole. I popped it onto the card with foam tape and added red, black, and gold flat backed gems around the scene. I used a gold gel pen to draw on tiny dots and fill up the empty spaces. Aqua Shimmer and Diamond Glaze give his eyes and mug extra shine. I love the way this card turned out. The bold colors against the neutral woodgrain really pop. What do you think of it?
