i-crafter October

Just in case I haven’t said it often enough, thank you for hanging out with me on the blog. I really enjoy the friendships we’ve formed. Today, I’m sharing a set of soft and shimmery thank you cards that help express my appreciation. They feature i-crafter’s new Thanks Feather die set. Aren’t they pretty?

I fell in love with the detail of the feather in the Thanks Feather die set, and wanted to create my own textured backgrounds to cut them from. What better way to do that then with ink smooshing, right? So out came my Distress Oxides, and I got to work. You can see below the colors I used for each panel. I recommend working on a smooth surface. (I smooshed the ink onto my craft mat, that is taped to a clipboard. The board offers stability, and can easily be moved around on my desk.) It’s really helpful to use strong, reverse tweezers to hold your panels while working. They keep your fingers out of the mess, and you can dry your panels with a heat gun, without worrying about burning yourself. As you are working, remember, you can always add more interest to a panel by splattering on more ink after the panel is dry. (I used one of our new Bling Palettes to help splatter on darker orange ink onto one panel that felt plain.)

You can see how the tweezers helped to keep my fingers nice and clean. How often does that happen with ink smooshing?

With my panels dry, and ready to go, I cut a pair of feathers from each sheet. (That left me with plenty of extra paper to use for projects later.) To accompany the feathers, I die cut the word THANKS from the same set out of both white, and silver glitter cardstock, several times. I also cut out silver glitter leaves at the same time. After sorting the leaves, words, and feathers into piles for each card, I glued them in place. Two cards have dark shimmery grey backgrounds, and the other two have lighter pearl grey backgrounds, and white splattered panels to showcase the die cut pieces. Pretty gems add more sparkle and finish the cards. I just love the way these turned out. Don’t you? Which are your favorites?
