Manatee Love

Thank you for joining us for the April Get Kids Crafty! blog hop! If you’re following along, you came here from Fanciful Spaces. Didn’t you just love the sentiment and the awesome alcohol ink background on their manatee card? So sweet! If you’re just jumping in, you’ll find links below to all of the blogs.

I’m so excited to share the adorable cards Kelly and I made using the Get Kids Crafty exclusive set, Manatee Love, from Beth Duff Designs! First up is Kelly’s cute take. She used a Distressed Oxide ink smooshed background and fussy cut images that she colored with alcohol markers and silver Wink of Stella. She cut her background down to be slightly smaller than her A2 card base and attached it with foam tape. She attached her images with a combination of glue and foam tape for different dimensions. How adorable is this? And can you believe she’s only 11?!

For my cards, I also used a Distress Oxide ink smooshed background but, I die cut a heart from my panel to get two cards for one. Smart, huh? On this card, I took the die cut heart and built my scene on it. For the sand, I cut out another heart and cut off the top with a stitched edge border, then colored it with my alcohol markers. I stamped out my images and colored them with alcohol markers as well. To save time and my thumbs, I used my Scan ‘N Cut to fussy cut them out. I used glue and foam tape to adhere the scene to the heart. For the card front, I die cut an A2 sized stitched rectangle from a speckled cream colored cardstock. I ran it through my machine again but, with a larger heart die turned upside down to deboss a frame for my scenic heart. (Make sure to use an embossing pad and the correct sandwich for your machine if you do this.) I used a VersaMarker and rose gold embossing powder to add detail to my heart frame and sentiment and popped my scenic heart up with foam tape.

For my second card, I decided to step it up a little and make a shaker card. I used the ink smooshed panel with the missing heart and added a larger die cut frame from white cardstock. I backed it with acetate to make my window front. I created a scene on a separate panel using my manatees and a few images from the MFT Mermazing set. I colored everything with alcohol markers and fussy cut the focal images. I glued everything in place, making sure to test the view from the window panel first. I placed a small pile of sequins and seed beads on top of my manatee scene then adhered the window with a double layer of foam tape, giving the shaker bits enough depth to move freely. I finished the card by adhering the panel to an A2 card base, then adding a stamped and die cut sentiment strip with more foam tape. A little clear Wink of Stella and a few sequins glued to the front give the card more sparkle!

I’m so happy that my daughter shares my love of crafting! We have multiple work stations set up in the craft room and we enjoy spending time together making things. Over spring break, Kelly and I spent A LOT of time in the craft room. We even had several of her friends over crafting with us. Cards were created, snacks were shared, videos were watched. There were a few shenanigans too, especially from Remington Steal-Your-Heart (and your trash) Bun Bun McPoopypants! But most importantly, memories were made.
