No Fuss Backgrounds for Quick Cards

Hey crafty friends, I’m sharing a tip for no fuss backgrounds today! Sometimes, we spend a lot of time coloring an image and don’t want it to get lost on a busy background. Sometimes, we just want to get a card out the door fast for a birthday party that afternoon 😉 It was the former for me with today’s card featuring the Caffeinated Bear from The Rabbit Hole Designs. Isn’t she cute?

Since it has been so chilly out in my craft room lately, I’ve been inking up images and taking them inside to Copic color on the couch. (While snuggled up under a blanket and binge watching Netflix 🙂 ) Lol, this bear has been my spirit animal lately. Once I was happy with the coloring, I cut her out with my ScanNCut and added some shiny details. Just like I did with the other Caffeinated Critters for this release, I brushed her eyelid and coffee mug with an Aqua Shimmer Pen. Then, I added Diamond Glaze to her eyeball and over the top of the mug. It really punches them up a bit.

After she was colored and cut out, she was ready for a card. I thought about creating a stenciled background, or cutting one from pattern paper, but everything seemed too busy and she was getting lost. I really wanted her to be the star of the show, so I opted for a much simpler background. I die cut a stitched rectangle from textured cardstock. The texture and stitching add interest without too much distraction. I layered her up with an embossed sentiment on a stitched sentiment strip, but it felt a bit plain. A large die cut heart, or similar element would have worked too, but I have some colorful doilies in my stash and the mint one looked great tucked under her. I mounted everything to a white card base and trimmed away anything hanging off the edges. A few flat-backed gems scattered near the bear finish the card. This was such an easy way to pull the card together. Just look for bigger, solid color elements that can help ground your image and frame the sentiment. (You may want to add a quick shadow under your image, but I didn’t need to on the doily.)

Lol, this may become my go-to card template for cold months. Are you ready to see what the rest of the team made with the Caffeinated Bear? Hop along with us and see!
