Twinkling Retro Christmas Tree

There’s something so nostalgic and magical about a vintage light-up card that instantly brings back cozy holiday memories. The combo of that classic retro aesthetic with a modern twist just hits different. With the Pear Blossom Press Twinkle Light and some fun layered pieces, this project is genuinely a keeper for years to come. I’m thrilled to walk you through creating your own!

Start by carefully layering your tree pieces. I went with a lacquered black and white combination for that modern-meets-vintage feel, but you could use three different shades of one color instead. Then, I marked which three bulbs I wanted to illuminate by creating a visual triangle. I left those three spots open as I glued on bulbs for the rest of the tree. Then I used my pokey tool to carefully punch holes through the cardstock of the tree. I like to do this in stages instead of trying to poke through several layers at the same time. Once I adhered the tree to the background I’d made, I poked through a second time to create holes in the card panel.

Now for the lights! I threaded each light through so the yellow part on the end of the wire faced up; this is the actual light. I pulled them through a little farther than normal because the bulbs are bigger than the holes we made. Before adding the battery and button, I lined it up behind the outlet and used that as a guide to place the rectangle die from the Press Stamp and Die Bundle on the cardbase. This makes a little escape hatch door so you access the battery later to replace it. Once those elements were ready, it was time to close things up. I taped those wires down and secure the final bulbs with tiny adhesive dots. Finally, I added foam tape and adhered my panel to the card base.

This is absolutely the perfect project for the holidays. I hope you’ll give a light-up card a try.
