Using Small Stamps to Create a Background

Hello my crafty friend! Today, I’m sharing a sweet card, with a background created from small stamped images. This is a great technique to spotlight a sentiment. Since most sentiment stamp sets usually include one or two related small images, you can often create cards like this with only one set. And since you are stamping it yourself, you can make your card any size (A2, A7, slimline, etc).

Today’s card features the Spellbinders Clear Stamp of the Month for May. To create it, I first stamped a large sentiment on a white A2 panel with Versamark ink. After coating it with white embossing powder, I stamped the small floral images randomly to fill in the negative space and create a pattern. I coated those images with white powder and embossed the whole panel. (To prevent extra warping, I did not heat the sentiment before stamping the flowers. The ink stays wet long enough that there is plenty of time to work, and by coating the sentiment with powder, I was able to see it while stamping the flowers.)

After the powder was melted, I used pink, yellow, and turquoise ink to blend a rainbow over the panel. Then, I splattered water and shimmer mist over the panel for more texture. You could substitute any colors you like, or use watercolor instead. You could even start with a pattern paper panel, and skip the inking altogether, or stamp the images with colored inks instead and keep the background white.

To pull the card together, I trimmed the panel down, mounted it to a white mat, then a kraft A2 card base. For more interest, I added dots and crosses with a white gel pen, and added a few gems. That’s it; it’s a quick and easy card. But it’s lovely, don’t you think?

What will you create with this month’s Clear Stamp of the Month? I can’t wait to see! Remember, in order to receive the May stamps and dies, your order needs to be placed by May 24th. (Otherwise, they will send you June’s.)

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I’ll be back soon with more fun cards to share.
