EZ Birthday Card

Hello again my crafty friend! Today, I’m sharing a quick look at a light-up birthday card that came together in a snap. I combined a shadow word die set, and coordinating stamps from The Rabbit Hole Designs, along with an EZ-Light for this fun, interactive card.

Here’s the finished card…

Press the button (where it says PUSH) and the candles really light up!

The shadow layer for the word BIRTHDAY is large enough to hide an EZ-Light, so I mounted one to the panel underneath. The candles and the word WISHES were stamped onto the panel, then I poked holes at the bottom of each flame. I punched a hole near the side of the EZ-Light, where the wires were, then threaded them through to the back of the stamped panel. I taped each light in place over the holes in the flames, and glued the panel to coordinating pattern paper and card base layers. Using double thick foam tape, I taped the die cut word BIRTHDAY in place, covering the battery of the EZ-Light. After stamping the word PUSH onto a white scrap, I trimmed it and adhered it over the button. A few raindrop gems glued on top of the candle flames add dimension to the flames, and glow when you press the button. By changing the colors and pattern paper, you can make the card more masculine or feminine. (It’s a great stash buster for your pattern paper scraps too.)

If you’d like to see a video where I light up gems in a similar fashion, check this one out.

This card, and another just like it, will be the featured project in a kit I’m putting together for the Stamp and Scrapbook Expo, here in Ontario, California October 28-30. If you will be in the area, come on out and see me! I’m excited (and slightly nervous) to have a booth at the event. Some of my favorite companies will have booths there too, so I know it will be awesome!

If you can’t make it to Expo, but you’d like to create cards like this, here is the supply list…
