Flower Power – Heffy Doodlers Challenge

It’s officially springtime and everything is starting to bloom. Lol, we’re not going to talk about the tomatoes that have completely taken over my garden, but we can talk about the flowers around the rest of the yard. The citrus trees just bloomed, the lavender and geraniums are in full swing. Even the roses are at it again. So for this month’s Heffy Doodlers Challenge, we decided to use Flower Power as the theme. Of course, Heffy Doodle has some really cute floral stamps and stencils, but I love stretching my supplies and repurposing them. Can you guess what I made my flower from?

Don’t worry if you can’t guess, I’ll show you. I stamped and embossed HAPPY BIRTHDAY from the Pebble Sentiments stamp set onto yellow cardstock and cut it out with the coordinating scalloped die. With two other dies in the same set, I cut out seven plain white ovals and a stitched green one. Using a banner die in the Stitched Strips of Ease set, I cut out a green strip. To form the flower, I fanned the white ovals out into a circle and glued them together where they overlapped. The green strip and oval became the stem and leaf, and I popped the yellow birthday sentiment up in the center of the flower with foam tape.

Now let’s talk about the background for my card. To coordinate with the die cut flower, I decided to create a bold die cut background as well. After cutting the various shapes out from the Zig-A-Zig-Ah Chevron dies in a palette of blue, yellow, cream, kraft, and several shades of salmon, I lined them up at an angle and glued them to a mini-slimline card base. Since the flower was primarily white, I covered most of the card front, leaving minimal white space. Then, I trimmed up any overhanging pieces. Doesn’t it look cool?

For extra dimension, I attached the flower to the card with more foam tape. Then I scattered on a few sequins and pearls for shine. I love the way this card turned out! What do you think? Do you have any shapes in your stash that you can try this with?
