Tricks for Quick, Easy, & Elegant Halloween Cards

Today I’m sharing a trio of Halloween cards that are quick, easy, and elegant. You can whip out a whole batch of these in almost no time at all. So what’s the secret? I actually have two…

Trick Number 1

The first trick is to start with pre-made card bases. Obviously, you could always create backgrounds like this with alcohol inks and gold foil, but did you know most of the big box craft stores carry sets of pre-made card bases in variety boxes? These can be huge timesavers, and they come in lots of styles. I picked up a box of 50 foiled cards for only a few dollars the last time I went in. I keep them in my stash, with other pre-cut card bases, and pull them out when I want to make quick cards. You just add a focal point and a sentiment, and you’re done!

Trick Number 2

The next trick is to use die cuts to make your cards pop. I LOVE the new Halloween sets from i-crafter. I mixed and matched bats, pumpkins, a ghost, and sentiments from three die sets: Mini Halloween Hauntings, Halloween Treat Lanterns, and the Halloween Add-on for Tunnel Cards. By cutting your pieces from white cardstock, you can add a few quick details with Copic markers, and glue them onto your card bases. I chose to stack the sentiments several times, for extra dimension. The vellum ghost is actually sandwiched between the layers of the sentiment, and slightly curled back. This really helps him pop off the page. A few scattered gems, mixed in with the die cuts, add sparkle and more dimension with very little effort.

It’s hard to capture the dimension of the die cuts, and beauty of the foil in photographs, but in person, these cards are really lovely. And a wee bit spooky. Which is your favorite?

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope I’ve inspired you to give these quick and easy cards a try. With so many styles of pre-made card bases, and different dies available, you can use this recipe for all sorts of cards! I jokingly refer to this method as Hamburger Helper® for cardmakers.

You can find the sister article to this on the i-crafter blog today. I’ll be back this weekend with a whole slew of fun new light-up cards to share. And I’m working on a really cool one with the new tunnel card add-on for a video in early October. In the meantime, if you’d like to see more fun ideas with these new Halloween dies, check out this post!
